As keen followers will know, back in November 2015, I was advised to declare a pecuniary interest in The Haven, as a result of the proximity of my residence, and withdraw from Council deliberations on the matter. My thoughts at that time can be found here.
I am now pleased to advise that last Tuesday 29th March, Council (without me being present) endorsed baseline works that will make the site safe and publicly accessible. This $163,000 commitment will fund the removal of the existing stage and under-croft, creek line rehabilitation and terrace steps restoration. Council also resolved to move forward with submitting a Development Application (DA) before 30 June 2016, for proposed plans (now broadly supported by community groups) to build a new stage.
Construction of the new stage, beyond DA submission, will be dependent on Council’s 2016/17 budget and other funding options including grants and community fundraising, with the total cost of the project currently estimated at $1.23M.
A copy of Council’s media release can be found here.
