Most Willoughby residents will be aware of the proposal for a new Woolworths supermarket at 17-19 Smith St, East Chatswood (the “old” Sundell Holden site). Some of you attended Council’s recent information session in early June. Even more of you will have seen the display this weekend at Woolworths in Northbridge.
This proposal was first considered by Council in late 2011. Council rejected the proposal at that time, as it required re-zoning of the site from industrial to retail use, given concerns regarding traffic implications and among other things Council resolved the proposal had “no compelling net benefit to the community”. The JRPP (Joint Regional Planning Panel) also subsequently rejected the proposal. However, in December last year, the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure instructed Council that contrary to these decisions, exhibition regarding re-zoning should occur.
Council’s exhibition and consultation period on the rezoning closes at 5pm, this Wednesday 2 July 2014.
