My week has been primarily spent at pre-poll on Sailors Bay, Northbridge. There have been around 600 votes lodged to date.
This has been a good warm up for the BIG day on Saturday. I have had the opportunity to get to know other candidates, and more importantly talk to people about local issues. The redevelopment of Northbridge Plaza, traffic management and green issues are the top of the list.
On Monday night, I attended Council. The main issue of the night was the Northbridge Football Clubs application to trial Saturday afternoon games at Bicentennial Reserve. I am frankly staggered that this was even an issue. A beautiful ground, not being used on a Saturday afternoon for sport, just doesn’t make sense to me. Fortunately common sense has prevailed, and the club is able to use the field, with some significant car pooling considerations.
A Cobar Street resident also addressed Council. The issue concerned one of the first properties to have the new NSW Housing Code applied. Unfortunately the State Government has introduced new laws which makes it very easy for DA’s to be approved and this can be to the detriment of the street scape and neighbouring properties. This is now out of the Council’s hands and I am sure this is not the last to be heard on this issue.
Last night I attended the Castlecrag Progress Association AGM. It was a good turn out and the Mayor gave a round up of activities from his perspective.
Door knocking continued over the weekend. Thanks again to Mandy and Louise. Traffic around the Leisure Centre was the hot topic around the area.
